The 5 Common Myths That Keep Us From Safety, Trust, and Belonging

Why insight, effort, and “trying harder” don’t always lead to clarity— and a different way to think about inner awareness and self-understanding.

This Educational Session May Be Relevant If…

Many adult adoptees explore therapy, personal development, or reflective practices, yet still find themselves questioning why certain approaches don’t seem to bring lasting clarity.

Common experiences often discussed include:

  • feeling unsure how to apply insight in daily life

  • sensing a disconnect between understanding and lived experience

  • encountering approaches that feel overly effort-based or heavy

  • carrying unspoken expectations about where one “should” be by now

This session offers perspective on why some commonly taught frameworks may feel incomplete — and introduces alternative ways of understanding inner experience and self-trust.

A Reframing Worth Considering

Many adult adoptees engage deeply with reflection, learning, and personal development.

When insight alone doesn’t seem to translate into lasting clarity, it’s common to question the approach itself — not because anything is “wrong,” but because some commonly taught models emphasize understanding while overlooking pacing, context, and integration.

This educational session explores why certain frameworks may feel incomplete — and offers alternative perspectives on how insight, awareness, and lived experience interact.

How This Session Relates to Therapy

Many adult adoptees engage in therapy, reflection, or other personal development practices as part of their learning and growth.

This educational session is not a replacement for therapy, nor does it attempt to evaluate or compare different therapeutic approaches.

Instead, it offers a broader perspective on how insight, understanding, and lived experience are often discussed — and invites participants to explore alternative ways of thinking about these topics.

What This Session Is — and Isn’t

This session is:

  • an educational presentation with a thoughtful, paced approach

  • informed by adoption-related perspectives and lived experience

  • focused on understanding patterns, context, and personal awareness

  • respectful, grounded, and future-oriented

This session is not:

  • a space for sharing personal stories or private experiences

  • a facilitated group discussion or interactive processing

  • a therapeutic, clinical, or crisis-based service

  • intended to diagnose, treat, or correct personal challenges

About the Facilitator

Meagan is an adult adoptee and the creator of The Homecoming Method.

Her work is informed by lived experience, long-term study, and years of engagement with adoption-related conversations, reflective practices, and personal development spaces.
